So… What really helps new teachers succeed?

Led by Christine Frank & Associates, the Cathexis team has spent the last couple of years analyzing and evaluating what aspects of the Ontario Ministry of Education’s New Teacher Induction Program (NTIP) are most influential in helping teachers improve their skills and abilities in the classroom. NTIP provides support in orienting new teachers to their school and schoolboard, mentorship from experienced teachers, as well as professional development and training.

The third year highlights report has now been publicly released on the Mentoring Moments website and summarizes three years of longitudinal findings on the key aspects that make meaningful and sustained improvements for NTIP teachers. Amongst them, principal encouragement and school culture were found to be predictors of growth and confidence as a new teacher.
