Some people feel like they have to know the science inside out before they can talk about it or do something about it. But here’s what I have learned: You don’t have to know the details of the science to be part of the solution. And if you wait until you know everything, it will be too late for you to do anything.”

This week, Cathexis team members met to discuss Session 2 – Root for our All We Can Save summer reading circle. The section explored the deeper connections between people and the environment, highlighting themes of Indigenous wisdom, the interconnectedness of our earth, and a bit of background on climate action.
Our team really enjoyed the essays and poems in this chapter as we learned more about climate change solutions and their connections to Indigenous knowledge. In Xiye Bastida’s essay “Calling In”, she included tips to become a climate justice activist. Her essay reminded us that we don’t need to be experts in climate science to take meaningful action against the climate crisis. Another that stuck out to us was, “Indigenous Prophecy and Mother Earth” by Sherri Mitchell – Weh’na Ha’mu Kwasset, which brought up the value of Indigenous teachings when addressing the climate crisis.
Stay tuned for another post about our learnings from the next section of All We Can Save!
